My little story for this US trip actually started with saving money. I planned to travel in the summer and my budget was like a typical student budget. I booked a car on QEEQ from Atlanta to New York. The car was a Toyota Camry from Avis. I would pick it up in Atlanta in the morning around late July and return it a few days later in New York around noon. When I first finished the booking I felt a bit nervous. Plane tickets and hotels already cost a lot. With the car on top my wallet did not feel very safe. A few days later I was checking my credit card and trying to count how much this whole trip would cost. I talked to myself and said I wish the car could be a bit cheaper. I also thought maybe I should have booked later because maybe the price would go down. But I was scared that there would be no cars left so when I booked I just clicked pay and hoped for the best. Later I saw their confirmation email in my inbox and I scrolled through it. Then I remembered that I chose a service called Price Drop Protector. At that time I only felt it sounded nice. The idea was that if the price dropped later they would auto book again and give me back the difference. In my mind I was not sure at all. I thought will the price really drop and even if it does who would really help me like that. Time passed. I was busy planning my route. I checked the weather in Atlanta and also checked parking in New York. I totally forgot about the price thing. One night I was lying in bed and using my phone when a new email popped up from them. I opened it and saw that my booking was confirmed again and the price was lower than before. There was a line that showed the difference of more than thirty euro. I sat up right away. My only thought was is this real. I did nothing and somehow I saved this much money. I thought maybe I read it wrong so I opened my old booking and compared the numbers. It was true. At that moment it felt kind of magical. It was like someone was watching the price for me in the background. I joked with my friend and said I made money while I was sleeping. My friend replied that I basically got free money. I thought about it and it did feel like that. In the next days I sometimes opened the booking again because I was scared something would be wrong. Every time I checked the info was normal. Pick up was still in the early morning around eight something. Return was still around noon a few days later. The car group was still the same Toyota Camry type. Only the price was lower. I suddenly felt a lot lighter in my mind. I was worried that my budget would explode. Now with this money saved I started to plan extra meals in better restaurants or maybe some small gifts from New York. My mom heard about this and asked me if I bought some strange insurance again. I explained that it was not like that. I told her they just watched the price and when it dropped they rebooked and gave me the difference back. My mom said that was pretty smart. I felt a bit proud. I felt like one of those travelers who know how to hunt for deals even though I only ticked one option by chance. The best part for me was that I did not send any urgent messages or do any work. From my side the only thing I felt was one day I found that the booking was cheaper and the money was saved. For a student more than thirty euro is not a small thing. It can pay for one or two proper meals or some tickets for places I want to see. When I look back at my trip prep the thing I remember most is not the exact day of each attraction. It is this little surprise of extra room in my budget. My tight plan suddenly had more air. I kept thinking I am really glad I chose this service. If not I would just spend more for no reason. It felt like someone helped me pick up a discount coupon that I would normally miss. Now when I talk with classmates about car rentals everyone is trying to get the best price. I always mention Price Drop Protector and say that this is how I saved money this time. I think if I rent a car again I will probably choose this service again. I like this feeling a lot. I do nothing special and before the trip starts I suddenly find that I saved money. For a student who needs to think about every expense this feeling of kind of earning money for free is really hard to forget.
