Who thinks their car glass will get hit by a stone and crack like in a movie? That day in Temuco in Chile I was driving the Peugeot 2008 I rented. The weather was nice and the streets were quiet with low houses and trees. I felt pretty relaxed. Then the car in front of me rolled over some small rocks. One stone just flew back and hit my windshield. There was a clear crack on the glass right away. My first thought was that my wallet was dead. I could only think about how much I would have to pay. I just felt the price was okay and one more protection was fine. When the accident really happened I was so glad I had that plan. The return time was supposed to be around noon on January 27. I went back to Temuco one day earlier and kept thinking how many Chilean pesos the glass might cost me. At the Avis desk when I returned the car the staff checked the car and saw the crack on the windshield. I could feel my hands getting sweaty. I explained that a stone from the road hit the glass and in my head I kept repeating that at least I had that insurance. The rental staff followed their process and charged me for the damage. When I paid with my card it really hurt. The amount was a bit more than three hundred dollars which is a lot for me. After that I contacted their support and said I had AXA Full Coverage and wanted to claim. I speak Spanish so I was a bit worried if it would be hard to deal with everything. They told me they could help and asked me for some documents. Those days I went to school and also checked my phone for photos. I found the pictures of the broken glass and sent them. I also confirmed the amount which was around 366.79 dollars. In my mind I was still scared that they might find some reason to say no. Some time later they told me the amount was confirmed and I would get 366.79 dollars back. I felt a big weight off my chest. For a while I checked my bank account and did not see the money so I even went to the bank to ask. I started to worry again and thought maybe something went wrong. I asked them again and then got told that the payment had already been sent out around the middle of March and it was just a problem when I checked my side. After we cleared that I finally saw the money in my account. In that moment I felt like the insurance was really worth it. When I think about it if I did not have AXA Full Coverage this glass damage from one small stone would mean I had to pay all the car repair cost by myself. Now I paid at the rental desk first but then I got the 366.79 dollars back. Except for some time and a bit of stress I did not really lose that money. For a young person like me this is already a big amount. Having this coverage in front of me made me feel much safer. This whole thing taught me that one small choice when booking a car can make a huge difference when something bad suddenly happens.
