To be honest I never thought I would really need AXA Full Coverage. I booked the car on QEEQ and picked it up in Hualien around the middle of May. I planned to drive down to Tainan and return it a few days later. On the first afternoon something bad happened. I slowed down at a junction to check all directions. A car behind us did not stop and crashed into the back of our car. The sound was very loud. I was shocked and my first reaction was to look at my partner in the passenger seat. Her face was pale. She said her teeth hurt a lot and her neck also hurt. In that moment I was scared and a bit lost. We went to the police station to report the accident. Then we went to the hospital. The doctor said two of her front teeth were broken and we had to come back the next morning for more checks. That night I could not stop thinking. The rear of the car was damaged. There would be downtime fees. Maybe repair costs too. We also could not use the car for the next days. I kept asking myself if all this money would come from my own pocket even if the crash was not my fault. When we brought the car back to the rental counter earlier than planned I felt nervous. I worried about my partner’s health and at the same time I was afraid that my credit card would suddenly show a big charge for damage and days we did not use the car. Later the rental company charged 9450 TWD as a fee for the days the car could not be used. When I saw this number I felt it was unfair. The other driver hit us from behind so why should I pay so much. At that moment I remembered I had bought AXA Full Coverage and I hoped it could really help. I collected all the papers from the police and the hospital and then asked the service team what I could claim. At first the claim was not simple for me. I tried to include many things. I wanted the unused rental days back the downtime fee for the car repair even flights and transport to the hospital. In my head I thought I just tell everything and maybe they pay everything. I wrote and rewrote the amounts many times. They explained to me in simple words that this insurance mainly covers damage to the rental car and also some medical costs only for the insured person when there is a permanent problem. Other costs like flights and local transport are outside the cover. I did not really like this answer and I was worried that my English was not clear enough. I felt a bit stressed but I still adjusted my claim and focused on the damage and the downtime fee that the rental company charged. In the end the claim amount was confirmed as 283.94 EUR. This was basically the whole 9450 TWD downtime fee plus the related fee covered by AXA Full Coverage. When I saw this number I felt that at least for the car part I did not lose money for nothing. The money did not arrive very fast. I checked my bank account many times and sometimes I thought that maybe the process was stuck again. One day I finally saw the transfer for 283.94 EUR. The relief I felt at that moment was very real. When I look back I think that without this insurance I would have had to accept the 9450 TWD fee even if the accident was not my fault. Now at least the cost for the car and its downtime is solved and I can focus more on my partner’s treatment. Her medical bills were not covered in the end but at least they really paid for the car loss and that gave me some solid help in a very stressful time.
