I really felt my solo Bangkok trip started when I saw the Tank 500 in the parking area that night. The lights were on the car and this big seven seat SUV was just waiting there. I suddenly felt like wow I really came here alone. At the same time I remembered that a few weeks before this when I was at home booking on my phone I only paid 1 dollar to lock this car and that memory felt kind of crazy. Back then I was planning the whole trip to Bangkok by myself. Flight hotel and other things already cost a lot and my credit card bill always looked heavy. I also wanted a big car like the Tank 500 so I could drive in the city in the day and maybe pick up some friends at night. A car like this is not cheap so I was worried that paying the full amount at once would push my card very close to the limit and then I might have trouble paying for other stuff. When I saw the One-Dollar Freeze on QEEQ I did not really trust it at first. I kept thinking there might be some strange extra fees later. The note said I only needed to pay 1 dollar first as a booking fee and the rest would be charged automatically before the rental started and there was no interest. I stared at the screen for a while and thought this was a good way to keep my card under less pressure. So I decided to try it and paid that 1 dollar. When the booking success page showed up I just sat there for a moment and thought is that it. There was still some time before my trip. I even changed my plan in my head once. I thought about taking the car a bit earlier like on May 29 in the morning then I went back to a late May 31 morning idea. In my mind the time kept jumping around but I always felt calm because the big payment was not taken yet. I only checked the order sometimes and saw that the car was still the same Tank 500 automatic seven seater. A few days before flying out I packed my suitcase and sat on the bed. I looked at my phone and saw the payment notice. The amount was exactly what I expected and there were no weird charges. At that moment I felt this one dollar first and then auto pay style really fits someone like me who travels alone and keeps watching the budget. When I reached Bangkok I got to the city in the early morning and went to the rental counter close to 9 am. The staff checked my booking and everything was smooth. While they were doing the paperwork I was thinking that if I had paid everything long ago I would have spent those weeks staring at my card bill. With this way the payment was more relaxed and my mental pressure was much lower. When I walked to the car with my luggage the air was hot and sticky and I could hear traffic everywhere but inside I felt light. I had the car the money was already paid in a calm rhythm there was no interest and my credit card was not pushed to the max all at once. For me this One-Dollar Freeze experience felt like someone was quietly holding a part of the weight for me so I could focus more on where I wanted to go and what I wanted to eat next instead of worrying about numbers on my bill every single day.
