You only paid one dollar to book the car? My friend asked me on chat. I was already in Melbourne in the US and was about to return the car. I held the Avis Toyota RAV4 key in my hand and I was thinking that this booking felt really easy. When I first made the booking I was not so sure. Before this I always had to pay a big amount at once when I booked a car. My credit card limit went down fast and I did not dare to spend much after that. This time I booked through QEEQ and I saw a thing called One-Dollar Freeze. It said I could pay only 1 dollar first and lock the car. My first reaction was doubt. In my head I was thinking if there was some hidden problem. That night I looked at my phone for a long time. My inner voice was very noisy. Should I try this or not. What if they charge the rest too early. What if there are strange extra fees. In the end I still pressed confirm. The payment notice popped up and it only took 1 dollar. I checked the bill again and made sure it was really just one dollar. I felt a bit excited. It was like I got a small win. More important for me was that my credit card was not suddenly cut by a big number. My stress was much lower that month. After that I just went on with my normal life. I almost forgot about the booking sometimes. Because I only paid 1 dollar I did not worry that my balance was stuck there. For someone young like me who is still saving money this feeling is very different. Close to the start of the rental I saw that the rest of the money was charged automatically. The time was quite near the pick up date. When I saw the bill I checked the price again. There were no strange extra items. The amount was the same as what I saw when I booked. I let out a small breath in my mind. I felt that I worried too much before. Near the end of May 2026 when I went to pick up the car in Melbourne I arrived at the counter in the afternoon. The staff finished the paperwork and gave me the RAV4 key. At that moment I suddenly remembered that this car was actually frozen for me before with that 1 dollar. When I thought about the whole process I felt that this kind of payment where the big part comes later is much easier for me than paying everything at once. Before this I always paid full amount weeks before the trip. The number in my bank dropped fast. I kept watching my account and I was scared that the next spending would break my plan. This time because of One-Dollar Freeze I felt I had a bit more room. I could lock my plan first and move the main payment closer to the trip. In my mind this made me feel much more relaxed. On the return day I parked the car and checked if I left anything inside. Then I walked to the counter. On the way I thought about that moment when I booked the car with just 1 dollar. I felt that if I book again and I see this kind of pay a little first way I will use it again. It does not take a big part of my credit card at once and for someone like me who tries to control spending it feels friendly and less stressful.
