Let me complain a bit first. Before business trips I really hate when my credit card limit gets taken up in one go. I fly in and out, have meetings, then still need a car in another city. In the past when I booked cars, the full prepay charge hit my card at once. The reimbursement from work was always slow. I felt a lot of stress. This time when I booked through QEEQ I saw a plan called One-Dollar Freeze. It said I only need to pay 1 dollar first to lock the car. The rest would be charged automatically before the rental starts and there is no interest. At first I did not fully trust it. I checked the price a few times and saw it was the same as normal prepay, so I chose this plan. I placed the booking around June 11. I chose to pick up a Toyota Camry or similar in New York at noon on June 15 and return it the next day around noon in Washington. When I booked I was only charged 1 dollar. My banking app showed the small charge and I kind of laughed. It felt like I saved a spot but my wallet had no pressure at all. One or two days before the trip I saw the rest of the rental amount charged on my card. That time I already knew my schedule was set. There was no extra fee and the number was exactly what I saw when I booked. For me the key point is my credit card limit stayed quite free during those days. It did not get locked by the full car payment weeks before. That helped with other work costs like possible flight changes and hotels. On the pickup day at noon I went to the rental counter near the New York airport. The staff checked my booking and asked me to swipe my card for the deposit. They did not ask anything about the prepayment and the whole process was simple. I was really glad I used the 1 dollar plan. If a big payment was stuck on my card from the start I would feel very passive during the whole trip. This experience made me like this way of paying only 1 dollar first and the rest later. It feels very friendly for business travelers because plans often change and at least the card pressure does not hit you from day one.
